I received an email last night from Dropbox. They informed me that they have upgraded Pro accounts to 1TB in size!
I wondered when this would happen. I knew it would because Google announced quite a while ago that their service offered 1TB of online storage space and it was only a matter of time before Dropbox had to do the same thing to keep up.
I remember Google announced their storage space increase to 1TB about two weeks after my Dropbox Pro account renewed in March. Needless to say I was quite upset that I could have had ten times more storage space for the same price.
Even though I knew it would eventually happen with Dropbox, I decided that if they hadn't upgraded Pro accounts to 1TB by the time my account needed to be renewed next year that I would switch to a paid version of Google Drive. It looks like I don't need to do that!
I also wondered if Dropbox would give free users more storage space as an incentive to use their service. I have seen other online cloud services offer as much as 15GB for free. I am sure there are a few out there offering even more than that. However, it does not appear that Dropbox is planning on doing that any time soon according to their "pricing" page on their website.
I don't think I even have 1TB of documents, photos, videos, etc. on my Windows computer right now... And I know my MacBook Air definitely cannot fit that much stuff! However, I can now put some of my movies and TV shows on my Dropbox that are currently just on an external hard drive!
